Summer in Lucca is hot… and full of events!

Summer in Lucca is hot… and full of events!

From August 9 to 11, on the occasion of the San Lorenzo weekend, the gardens of Villa Reale in Marlia are hosting “Le Rinascenze by Night”: 3 evenings of shows, performances, exhibitions, plays of light and colours, in an exciting festival of art under the stars for visitors of all ages.

On August 10, the night of San Lorenzo, from 9:30 PM, “E Lucevan le Stelle”, a journey through opera music to the notes of great composers from Lucca and beyond, illuminated by the starry sky. Opera concerts on the ramparts of Lucca’s city walls, exhibitions, open barracks featuring costumed characters and extraordinary opening of the Guinigi and Torre delle Ore towers.

The programme of Lucca Jazz Donna, the event dedicated to women jazz talents, offers four musical appointments in August, in the beautiful setting of the Real Collegio.

Another musical event – this one dedicated to Puccini – with two dates of Puccini marching bands, during which Lucca’s bands will take turns animating the streets and squares of the historic city centre, concluding with two Puccini compositions that will be performed in Piazza Cittadella or in the Palazzo Pretorio loggia.

On August 31, the appointment with the “Notte Bianca” (White Night), the longest night of the summer in the streets and squares of Lucca’s historic city centre, with a very rich programme for locals and tourists of all ages, to experience the city, shop, attend shows and performances under the stars, visit museums and discover the city’s rich and diverse cultural traditions.

For those who love cinema, until the month of September Estatecinema welcomes the public with a programme full of previews, premieres and special events.

And until the end of September, Lucca Biennale Cartasia takes over the city: a biennial exhibition of art, architecture and design in paper and cardboard, in which the most innovative and prominent figures of paper art animate the city of Lucca with art exhibitions, development projects, performances, events, conferences and workshops.

All this in preparation for the much-awaited “Settembre Lucchese”, which like every year will charm and entertain locals and visitors alike with its many events: from religious festivals to fairs, from amusement parks to markets, shows, performances, events and exhibitions. The highlight will be September 13, with the historic “Luminara di Santa Croce” religious celebration featuring an evocative procession illuminated by candles, while on September 14 “Santa Croce” (Holy Cross) is celebrated with the veneration of the “Volto Santo” (a historic wooden crucifix).
